Our Story
Our family-owned and run coffee roasting business, Capital Coffee, spans multiple generations and has a history going back almost 40 years.
By 2010 we thought it was high time we we put into practice everything we knew about successful coffee shops run by our customers and opened the Hapi Cafe in Claygate.
It’s given us a valuable insight and respect for the challenges faced by the independent coffee shop.
It’s not easy. It’s not exactly glamorous, but it’s a lot of fun.
The biggest lesson we’ve learned?
People come back for good coffee that’s well made.
No prizes for guessing whose coffee we use.

Our Claygate coffee blend has proved very popular, making reliably excellent Espresso and also amazing Flat Whites.
All of our coffee available in Claygate is hand-roasted in small batches by our master roaster.

Have come here a couple times, staff always friendly and polite. Bagels are amazing, and ask for siracha in my avo and hummus bagel without an issue which is yum. Bagels are £10 eating in which is a bit tough but worth it on the occasion 🙂

Great mocha and vegan mozzarella and tomato panini!!! The cheese was so good in it - like the real thing. My second visit and would definitely come back again. Even more vegan options would be amazing, eg. cakes. Staff member was a bit quiet

April 19, 2023TBH I've not gone to any of the other cafés in Claygate as yet but four times now at this one including today. Sun shining so I sat outside and how nice they provide soft warm blankets! Coffee is good as are they toasted sarnies/paninis and excellent service. Guess i should check others out but once I take to somewhere good I kinda stick with it.

But we have been most delighted to see the recent facelift to the interior and love the fact that art produced by two local artists adorn the walls and are for sale. What a great idea.
