Hello 2021: Our first 3 months in Cobham

Cobham Coffee Shop

January 07, 2021

It’s been 3 months since Caffe Capital opened its doors to the people of Cobham.

And what a 3 months it has been – from opening in relative normality (for 2020), to full-on lockdown, out into Tier 3 in early December, then Tier 4 just before Christmas, and now in January, entering another lockdown – it’s been a rollercoaster few months as we’ve pivoted on almost a weekly basis from fully open to takeaway, and back again.

Opening a coffee shop during a pandemic, we did anticipate this to some extent, but the reality is often tougher than anything we could have dreamed of.

Despite the challenges, we’ve had some amazing highlights.

First, the feedback from customers and the warm welcome from the Cobham locals has kept our spirits up over the cold Winter months. We introduced ourselves to the Cobham Mummies Facebook group and were honoured to receive over 250 likes and comments welcoming us to the high street, and hear that many people had already enjoyed a cup of coffee. Here is just one of the great reviews we’ve received, from Jenny on Google

“Amazing experience, lovely friendly and welcoming staff, exciting menu options. Had a Black Forest Hot Chocolate and New York style toastie. Both were delicious, nice setting, measures taken to keep it Covid safe.”

Second, we listened to customer feedback and have been working hard to create a range of delicious cakes, brownies and pastries for the discerning Cobham palates.

Third, we decorated the shop for Christmas, and launched our first ever competition, to name the baby penguin. We received 35 entries, many from local children, and eventually settled on the name Percy. He’s already looking forward to coming back at the end of 2021.

Finally, we ignored the freezing temperature and brought out our ice-creams and milkshakes to great fanfare, especially from the younger generations. With flavours including salted caramel, brownie and white chocolate, we are excited to start the New Year and welcome some warmer weather in the months to come and welcome more people for a cheeky afternoon milkshake or scoop (or five!)

We’ve got lots of exciting plans for 2021, including new hot and cold, sweet and savoury menu items, and hopefully welcoming our customers back to the shop to eat in when restrictions ease.

In the meantime, we are open for takeaway and would love to see you!
